Q&A
Q: What is "95th Percentile?"
A: Our switches (or router, depending on your service type) monitor the
traffic that comes from your servers. Every five minutes, a program called MRTG
takes a snapshot of the current rate of data throughput on your port. MRTG then
uses this data to calculate your average usage, expressed in "kilobits per
second," and creates easy-to-read graphs. At the end of the month, we sort this
data in descending order and throw away the top 5%. You are billed at the
highest remaining number.
If you're used to seeing "20GB per month," here's a simple way to compare:
Multiply the number of gigabytes by 3.2 to get your approximate 95th percentile
usage in Kilobits per second. For example, 20GB per month works out to 64 kbps.
Q: Can I get an IP address of something inside of your network to run some
tests on?
A: Feel free to traceroute to www.dragon.com.
Q: What control panels do you offer?
A: We currently specialize in Cpanel. Contact us for more information if you are interested in purchasing
a different control panel.
Q: How long has Serverhost in business?
A: Serverhost has been in business since February 1998. Serverhost was
acquired by Dragon Networks, Inc., an Atlanta-based ISP in June 2002.
Q: What is your policy on IP addresses?
A: Your first allocation of 16 IP addresses (14 usable) is
available at no charge. Additional IP addresses are available at $25 per
request plus $1.00 per IP per month, and will be assigned following ARIN's regulations (RFC 2050).
Q: What types of content are permitted?
A: Legal adult content is permitted. Content deemed illegal or offensive by Serverhost
(this includes ANY form of Warez-related website), UCE (spam), and any form of IRCD are not permitted. Each violation carries a
$300.00 charge, or possible suspension and/or termination. Serverhost will be the sole arbiter as to what constitutes a violation.
Q: Do you have any SLA's available?
A: At this time, we guarantee 99.9% network and power uptime, excluding
scheduled maintenance. We will issue you a prorated credit for downtime, up to
50% of
your monthly fee. We are not, however, responsible for downtime caused by
hardware or software problems with your equipment. This SLA does NOT apply
to any Cogent-only based products.
Q: How much are daily backups?
A: You can do this by adding a second hard drive into your system. However,
it is your responsibility to set this up and maintain it.
Q: I need very good uptime. How is the uptime?
A: Our network is next to none. We have over four gigabits of transit
available to us, and have access to almost every major Internet backbone
available in Atlanta.
Q: What is your policy on technical support and reboots?
A: Emergency telephone support is available. Onsite technician services are
available for issues other than basic reboots at $75 per half hour. Reboots are
usually provided at no charge as long as we do not deem them to be
excessive.
Q: If I prepay for a year in advance, do I get a discount?
A: Yes, you can receive a discount. Contact sales for more information.
